The buttons that matter in attack
Left stickMove and dribble. Small touches keep the ball close.
R2 holdSprint. Let go when a defender is near, or you'll lose the ball.
L2 holdShield the ball with your body when a defender gets tight. (Jockey when defending.)
Right stickSkill moves (below).
XPass along the ground.
TriangleThrough ball into a runner's path.
SquareLob pass or cross.
CircleShoot.
L1 + TriangleLofted through ball, chipped over the defenders.
R1 + CircleFinesse shot: curled and placed, best low to the far post.
Four beginner skill moves
Body feintFlick the right stick left or right, then let go. Your player fakes one way, and the defender leans. Go the other way with the left stick. Start with this one.StepoverRoll the right stick from up (towards goal) round to one side. Your player steps over the ball. Use it when running at a defender who is standing still.Ball rollHold the right stick to the side. Your player rolls the ball across. Good at the edge of the box to open a shooting angle.Fake shotPress Circle, then X straight away, with the left stick pointing where you want to go. The defender dives to block a shot that never comes.
A skill move beats one defender standing in front of you. Into a crowd of three it still loses the ball, so switch the play instead (play 1 below).
Four plays that beat a World Class block

1. Switch the playOne side is crowded and the far winger is free. Press Square for a lofted pass across, then attack him 1v1. In W3 you (Fermín) had three Liverpool players around you while Raphinha was free on the other side.2. Go over the lineWhen the ground pass is blocked, chip it over the defenders with L1 + Triangle to a teammate running behind them. Against Arsenal the ground pass to your free man in the D was blocked.3. Cut it backAt the byline, don't shoot from the tight angle. Pass back with X to the runner near the penalty spot. In the 0-3, Yamal beat Robertson to the byline and shot while two teammates arrived for the cutback.4. Attack fastWhen you win the ball, play forward straight away (Triangle for a through ball) before their defenders are back in shape. A set World Class block rarely opens.
The controls are FC's standard inputs for the Classic button layout, which you use. The Controller Settings tab on the Kick Off screen lists the exact inputs for your version. Skill moves also depend on the player's skill-move stars. The examples in the plays come from your checked reviews.
